We believe that success depends upon purpose, and that's why our goal at Mayan Technologies is not only to provide high-quality services and solutions, but to be part of something bigger, give back to our community, and create a positive impact. To help us achieve this, we created our Open-Heart Initiative in 2017 to lead our charitable programs both in Mexico and in the U.S.
Last year, as part of this initiative, and to mark the end of 2022, we coordinated for a second consecutive year our Holiday Toy Drive benefiting Children’s Medical Center Dallas here in the U.S. and participated for a fifth consecutive year in the “Santa por un Día” (Santa for a Day) program in Monterrey, Mexico. Both programs are focused on one thing - bringing a little holiday magic and cheer to children and families going through hardship and/or uncertainty, and what better time to get together for a greater cause than the holiday season.
We want to take this opportunity to share with you more about these initiatives, and the results of our combined efforts. As a company, we set up and coordinate the campaigns, but the magic is created by the people who support them. What better way to say thank you than to share with whoever takes the time to read this blog post, the impact created when people come together. There is no big or small efforts, only love.
Holiday Toy Drive
Our annual Holiday Toy Drive consists of collecting toy donations for children and families spending the holiday season hospitalized, in hopes of bringing a little magic and cheer to those going through hardship and uncertainty.
The toy drive started mid-November with the support of several local businesses who joined the cause by hosting a donation box at their establishment. From bakeries, to gyms, and studios, the support of these businesses was incredible, and we are truly appreciative of our community and the generosity of every business and individual who donated. Not only did we receive donations from our donation boxes, but we received several donations from donors through our Amazon Wishlist. It was as easy as open, select, and send!
In 2021, our first toy drive, we were able to deliver as a company, 400+ toys and an additional donation of school supplies. However, this past holiday season, we invited the community to participate and collected over 1,000 toys for the children and families at Children’s Medical Center. This only goes to clarify the importance of getting people and communities involved. The result is always so much better.
Our toy drive came to an end on December 20th when all collected donations were dropped off at the hospital’s main entrance where personnel from Child Life were awaiting the arrival of the moving truck rented out to transport the incredible number of toys collected this year. Additional to Child Life personnel, staff from Tru Med Spa and Jay Maymi from The Jay Maymi Show took time out their busy schedule to join us and help with the delivery.
The support kept pouring in after the initiative concluded that a second toy deliver was made to drop off all donations received after December 20th. Toy donations were delivered directly to children and placed in a complimentary Holiday Store, located within the hospital, where our families got to “shop” for present for those patients that are in the hospital on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Thank You!
We want to take this opportunity to individually thank our key supporters in this year’s toy drive.
In addition, we want to thank Randell R. Holmes with the City of Allen and the Allen Fairview Chamber of Commerce for their involvement in this toy drive. Not only did he provide a drop-off location for donations, but they also promoted the drive throughout our community. And a special thank you to Catina Hall Photography for complementary covering the delivery event, Jay Maymi for collecting a total of 5 boxes, the Guzman-Guerra family for donating over 40 toys to this cause.
We are extremely proud of our collective outcome, which allowed hundreds of children to experience the magic of Christmas and the joy of play at Children's Medical Center Dallas. We look forward to this year’s toy drive and hope we can count on your support!
Santa for a Day
For a fifth consecutive year, we partnered with El Mediador to participate in the Santa por una Dia program. This program selects schools with limited resources for low income families and coordinates a Holiday event to delivery Christmas gifts to children who need it most. Their mission, same as ours, is to help every child and their families have a joyful holiday season.
Every year, we invite our team to participate in this program by signing up as sponsor. For every child sponsored by a team member, Mayan sponsors an additional child. El Mediador then provides a letter written by each child listing one to three toys each child is looking forward most to receiving for Christmas, which each sponsor does their best to fulfill. All gift donations are gathered, tagged, and collected to be transported to the school where the delivery will be made through a special holiday event.
This year, we sponsored a total of 46 students who attend public school C.A.M Ángel De la Fuentes Carrau, which provides comprehensive school care to children and young adults with disabilities, multiple disabilities or developmental disorders, conditions that make it difficult for them to enroll in systematic schools.
All Christmas gifts were handed out one by one by Mayan volunteers to the children during a special holiday event which took place at the school on Tuesday, December 13th. This event was filled with gifts, music, treats and a lot of cake. We are grateful to be a part of this program every year, we get to experience firsthand the joy and smiles on kids faces when they receive their gifts as well as get to know them and share the magic of the holiday season. We look forward to many more years of partnership to come.
Conclusion
We are incredibly proud of our community, our team, and all those who participated or donated to either of these campaigns. As a company, we set up and coordinate the campaigns, but the magic is created by the people who support them. We are thankful for all the support we received this year, and we are looking forward to going bigger next year, until then!
