Santa por un Día: Continuing a Purpose-Driven Tradition

ree

Since 2019, Santa por un Día has served as one of the most tangible expressions of our Open-Heart Initiative. More than a seasonal activity, the program reflects a structured approach to community engagement rooted in participation, accountability, and consistency. Over the years, the initiative has supported more than 325 children through direct, hands-on involvement.

At its core, Santa por un Día is designed to move beyond symbolic giving. Team members actively participate by sponsoring individual children and fulfilling specific holiday wishes submitted through handwritten letters to Santa. These requests often include toys, clothing, and school-related items, allowing sponsors to respond to real, expressed needs rather than predefined gift lists. This model reinforces intentional giving while creating a meaningful connection between volunteers and the children they support.

How the Initiative Works

Each year, Santa por un Día is organized around direct sponsorship. Team members, alongside company participation, commit to one or more children and personally select the requested items. This approach ensures that every contribution is purposeful, thoughtful, and aligned with what each child hopes to receive. The process also promotes shared responsibility, as every participant plays a role in the success of the day.

In 2025, the initiative took place on December 15th at C.A.M. Ángel de la Fuentes Carrau in Monterrey, a school dedicated to providing specialized education for children with disabilities. The institution focuses on inclusion, independence, and skill development, offering individualized support that respects each student’s learning pace and abilities. Selecting partner organizations that share these values is a key part of how Santa por un Día is planned each year.

Planning With Purpose

The day was intentionally structured to align with the school’s environment and daily rhythm. Activities were designed to be inclusive, flexible, and respectful of the students’ needs. Rather than following a rigid schedule, the visit emphasized shared moments and participation at a pace that felt natural for everyone involved.

The event began in the school’s central patio, where gifts were organized and prepared for distribution. A brief welcome set the stage before Santa made a surprise appearance, immediately creating a sense of excitement and anticipation. With the support of 14 volunteers, 69 toys were delivered to 59 children, allowing time for personal interaction and photos throughout the process.

A continued partnership with Malandra Jewelry contributed an additional layer of support through the donation of 11 school bags, reinforcing the program’s focus on both celebration and practicality.

Creating Space for Connection

Throughout the visit, children engaged in activities at their own comfort level. A balloon-filled igloo offered a playful space for movement and laughter, while a mini hot-cake cart added a festive element to the afternoon. These simple experiences encouraged interaction without overwhelming the students, helping create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.

After lunch, generously provided by the school, volunteers spent time across four classrooms participating in games, music, and group activities. The role of the teachers was essential throughout the day. Their guidance ensured that activities flowed smoothly and that each group felt supported and included.

One of the closing moments featured Heber Banda, a former student of C.A.M., who volunteered his time to read holiday stories. Children and teachers participated together, turning the reading into a shared experience that brought the day to a calm and engaging close.

Before the visit concluded, the school presented a certificate of recognition in appreciation of the continued collaboration and support. While symbolic, the gesture underscored the value of long-term relationships built on trust and consistency.

A Model for Sustainable Community Engagement

Santa por un Día is one of several programs within the Open-Heart Initiative, and it illustrates how structured, people-centered efforts can create lasting impact. By focusing on participation, intentional giving, and alignment with community partners, the initiative demonstrates a sustainable approach to social responsibility.

Programs like this succeed not because of scale, but because of commitment. When organizations and individuals show up with purpose and follow through year after year, meaningful change becomes possible. Santa por un Día continues to be a reflection of that philosophy and a tradition built on shared effort, respect, and genuine connection.
