In this Spotlight, we’re excited to feature Gerardo Andrade, Technical Consultant at Mayan Technologies. From his early days as a full-stack developer in the C2C team to his current role in Enterprise Solutions, Gerardo’s journey has been defined by adaptability, initiative, and a strong drive to keep learning.

With experience spanning full-stack development, Kinetic and P21 environments, Automation Studio, and system integrations, Gerardo brings both technical versatility and a strong commitment to continuous learning. His curiosity and drive to understand challenges in depth have made him a go-to resource for research-heavy projects, complex troubleshooting, and tailored client solutions.

From his early days mastering programming fundamentals to his current role supporting enterprise-level implementations, Gerardo’s journey is defined by persistence, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit. In the following pages, he shares his professional path, the lessons learned, and the personal passions that keep him motivated beyond the screen.

Professional

Gerardo’s path at Mayan Technologies has been one of growth through change. Since joining the company, he has navigated shifts in teams, technologies, and project scopes, each time embracing the opportunity to adapt and expand his skills. His transition from the C2C team to Enterprise Solutions not only introduced him to new environments like Epicor Kinetic and Prophet 21, but also challenged him to think differently, learn independently, and approach each project with a solutions-driven mindset.

From troubleshooting complex reports to customizing ERP screens with limited documentation, Gerardo approaches his work with equal parts curiosity and precision. For him, every challenge is an opportunity to uncover the “why” behind a problem, ensuring that the solutions he delivers are effective, sustainable, and aligned with client goals.

What do you do at Mayan Technologies?

As a Technical Consultant, my focus is on developing, customizing, and troubleshooting solutions within Epicor Kinetic and Prophet 21. I work closely with clients to address technical challenges, enhance system functionality, and ensure their ERP platforms are aligned with business needs.

Before joining the Enterprise Solutions team, I was part of the C2C team as a full-stack developer, where I worked with a range of tools and technologies. This transition expanded my expertise, allowing me to take on projects that require both technical precision and an understanding of unique client processes.

You transitioned from being a software developer in our outsourcing team to being part of our Enterprise Solutions team. How was that experience for you?

It was both challenging and rewarding. Moving into Enterprise Solutions meant working with new systems, learning different processes, and stepping out of my comfort zone. I chose to approach it with curiosity and a willingness to adapt, which helped me build confidence as I took on new responsibilities.

Over time, I became more comfortable handling tickets, making deployments, and delivering solutions in this new environment. I see changes like this as valuable growth opportunities, both professionally and personally. They push you to learn, adjust, and strengthen the way you work.

What software development methodologies have you worked with, and how do you adapt to different project management approaches?

Most of my experience has been with the Scrum methodology, which I find effective for maintaining steady progress and clear communication. Scrum’s regular check-ins and timeline adjustments help address challenges early, keeping the team aligned and moving forward.

To adapt to different project management styles, I focus on a positive, solutions-oriented mindset. I make sure I understand the environment, the team’s workflow, and the client’s expectations before diving into the technical work. I rely on documentation, peer knowledge, and open communication to stay flexible and deliver results that meet both project and client goals.

How do you balance meeting tight deadlines with maintaining code quality and best practices?

I start by analyzing the full scope before making any changes. For example, if a task is estimated at 16 hours, I take time to understand why, what needs to be modified, and the potential impact of those changes. This prevents unnecessary rework, which often happens when you rush straight into programming.

Once I begin development, I follow the plan closely and, when the solution is complete, I give it a second review. This final check allows me to refine the work, ensure it is efficient, and confirm it meets best practices. By combining upfront analysis with a careful review at the end, I can meet deadlines without compromising quality.

What inspired you to pursue a career in technology?

My interest in technology started when I was a kid. I was fascinated by computers, even with the simpler software of the time, and enjoyed figuring out how to create presentations, add animations, or solve compatibility issues that others around me did not know how to handle. Over time, my parents encouraged that curiosity by enrolling me in summer computer courses, which deepened my skills and made me realize how much I enjoyed working with technology.

Later, studying programming in high school confirmed that this was the path I wanted to follow. That same excitement I felt back then, seeing a project or program work after putting in the effort, still drives me today. It is that sense of accomplishment that keeps me motivated and eager to take on new challenges.

As a Technical Consultant, what are your long-term goals, and how do you envision contributing to our team’s growth and our customers’ satisfaction?

My long-term goal is to become a specialist in Epicor, both in Kinetic and Prophet 21. I work toward that every day by gaining as much hands-on experience as possible, approaching each project as an opportunity to expand my skills. I also dedicate time to self-study, exploring new features, tools, and techniques so I can stay ahead of the curve.

I view every new challenge as an opportunity to learn rather than an obstacle. That mindset helps me build solutions more efficiently over time and ensures the knowledge stays with me for future projects. For our clients, my aim is to deliver faster, more accurate, and more meaningful results that address their needs directly, giving them the confidence that their systems are running at their best.

How do you tailor your technical recommendations to align with a client’s specific business processes?

I start by understanding the client’s context, priorities, and expectations. Before suggesting any solution, I analyze their processes to identify what will be most effective for their situation. There is often more than one way to solve a problem, so I consider the level of complexity they want, the resources they have available, and how quickly they need the solution implemented.

I also utilize available tools, including AI, but I never rely on them alone. Combining these resources with my expertise and that of my team ensures the recommendations are accurate, relevant, and customized to the client’s needs.

What types of projects do you most enjoy working on?

I enjoy projects that involve research and problem-solving, such as investigating the root cause of an issue in a report. I like getting into the details, tracing where the data comes from, and figuring out why something is happening. That process of discovery keeps the work interesting and gives me a deeper understanding of the systems I work with. These projects also challenge me to think critically, which helps me grow as a developer and consultant.

How has your experience been working here, and what do you appreciate most about our company culture

My time at Mayan Technologies has been filled with opportunities to adapt and grow. I have worked in different teams, each with its own set of challenges and learning curves. Moving from C2C to Enterprise Solutions required me to quickly learn new systems, improve my English skills, and adjust to different project scopes. Each transition has helped me expand my expertise and confidence.

What I value most about our culture is the sense of support and openness among team members. Even though we work remotely, there is a willingness to help, share knowledge, and connect during company events. That sense of collaboration makes it easier to overcome challenges and creates an environment where people can succeed together.

If you were not in technology, what career would you pursue?

I think I would choose something in the arts or sports. Music has always interested me, and I once tried learning guitar, although I did not follow through. I also enjoy playing soccer and could see myself pursuing it more seriously if life had taken a different path. Both areas feel very different from the technical world, but they share the same need for dedication, practice, and creativity.

Personal

Outside of work, Gerardo’s life is shaped by strong family ties, an active lifestyle, and new beginnings. Originally from San Felipe, Guanajuato, he values the close connections and sense of community that come with living in a small city. He is also preparing for one of the most significant changes in his personal life, becoming a father, and is focused on being the best example he can be for his child. Whether he is spending time with loved ones, playing soccer, or tackling hands-on projects around the house, Gerardo enjoys staying engaged and making the most of his time.

Could you tell us about your family?

I come from a large family with six sisters, and I am the only son. We are originally from San Felipe, Guanajuato, where most of us still have our home base. Some of my sisters now live in other cities, but we remain close and visit when we can. Family has always been an important part of my life, and having that strong support system has shaped who I am today.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy in your free time?

I like to make the most of my weekends by staying active and doing things that help me reset. Soccer has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and even after a serious injury a few years ago, I still enjoy getting back on the field whenever I can.

I also enjoy going to the gym, taking walks, and tackling small projects around the house. These activities keep me moving and give me a break from the computer screen. For me, staying active is not just about fitness, it is about keeping a balanced and positive mindset.

What is one fun fact about you that most people do not know?

Something people might not expect is how much I enjoy listening to birds. It is not just background noise for me; I pay attention to the different sounds and can often recognize specific calls, like those of canaries. I think it comes from growing up in a place where you are surrounded by nature, and small, everyday details stand out more.

It is a habit that has stayed with me, and it is one of those simple pleasures that can change the mood of my day. Whether I am at home or outside, hearing those familiar sounds is a reminder to slow down for a moment and enjoy what is around me.

What is something you have always wanted to learn but have not yet done?

I have always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument, especially the guitar. I tried once before but did not fully commit, and it is something I would like to revisit in the future. Music has a way of connecting with people and creating moments, and I think learning to play would be both rewarding and relaxing.

Right now, my focus is on other priorities, but I see it as a goal I can work toward once I have more time and stability in my schedule. It would be great to pick it up not only as a personal challenge, but also as a skill I could share with friends and family.

Do you have a favorite Holiday tradition?

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I enjoy the days off, but more than that, I value it as a time to reflect and appreciate another year spent with my family. We usually gather for dinner on the 24th, and sometimes relatives from other parts of Mexico join us, making it an even more special occasion.

For me, Christmas is about being grateful for the moments we still get to share. It is a reminder to pause, take in the atmosphere, and enjoy the company of the people who matter most.

Do you have any collections—whether it’s vintage gadgets, books, memorabilia, or something else—and what inspired you to start?

I have a small collection of sneakers, especially Air Force 1s. Growing up, it was common to see people wearing them, and I always liked the style. Once I started working and earning my own income, buying my first pair felt like a milestone.

It has since become something I enjoy adding to over time. My sister also runs a sneaker business, so I sometimes get pairs through her. For me, it is not about having a huge collection, but about appreciating the design and quality of each pair I own.

How are you preparing for becoming a dad, and what are you most looking forward to?

I am focusing on becoming a better version of myself, working on my attitudes and habits so I can set a good example for my child. This is something completely new for me, and while it will be a challenge, it is also something I look forward to with excitement.

The thought of having another reason to wake up motivated each day gives me a sense of purpose. My goal is to be a strong and positive presence, much like my parents have been for me, and to provide the same kind of support and guidance they gave me.

Who is a person that has inspired you throughout your life?

My dad has been one of my biggest inspirations. I admire the way he approaches life and handles challenges with a calm, steady perspective. He focuses on finding solutions rather than getting overwhelmed by problems, and that attitude is something I try to apply in my own life.

His example has taught me that while challenges are unavoidable, how you respond to them makes all the difference. Watching him face situations with patience and a clear mind has shown me the value of staying grounded, and it has helped me reduce stress and keep moving forward, no matter the circumstances.

Is there a piece of advice that has stuck with you throughout your life?

One of the most valuable pieces of advice I have received is not to take everything too personally. It came from my dad, and over time, I have come to realize how important it is. In day-to-day life, it is easy to get caught up in small situations or comments and let them affect your mood or focus. Learning to let go of those things has helped me stay more balanced and concentrate on what truly matters.

This perspective does not mean ignoring challenges or feedback. Instead, it is about keeping a healthy distance so you can respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally. It has helped me maintain stronger relationships, approach work with a clearer mind, and handle difficult situations with more patience.

What’s a typical weekend like for you when you're not working?

My weekends usually start on Friday evening with a haircut, a small tradition that gives me a chance to relax, catch up with friends at the barber shop, and mark the start of the weekend.

On Saturdays, I like to have breakfast with my family, often at a local restaurant that serves home-style meals. The rest of the day is spent taking care of things around the house, like trimming trees, making small repairs, or organizing spaces that need attention. In the evening, I might spend time with friends, whether at someone’s house or out for something low-key.

Sundays are for soccer in the morning, which I look forward to all week. After the game, I attend mass and then spend the rest of the day with either my family or my partner’s family, enjoying a slower pace before the new week begins.

Is there a book, podcast, or online resource that has recently inspired you? What was it?

I enjoy listening to podcasts that feature interviews with well-known people, as they often share valuable experiences and perspectives. One I recently listened to was Joe Rogan’s interview with Adam Sandler. Hearing Adam talk about his career, challenges, and creative process was both interesting and motivating.

I also listened to the episode with Mark Zuckerberg, which offered a different kind of insight into innovation and leadership. Even though these conversations are casual, they often contain lessons and ideas that can be applied to both personal growth and professional development.
