Professional

Ana Luisa embarked on her professional voyage upon completing her bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tecnologico Nacional de Mexico. Initially setting her sights on the aerospace sector, she started as an intern at a leading aerospace company. However, her career trajectory shifted towards manufacturing and technology, a change propelled by her interest in ERP systems and their transformative impact on the industry.

Determined to deepen her expertise, Ana Luisa is actively pursuing advancement in the realm of data analysis. Join us as she shares insights into her professional journey and experiences during her time at Mayan Technologies.

What do you do at Mayan Technologies?

I work as a Manufacturing Consultant at Mayan Technologies. My job has two main parts. First, I help with everyday issues, like solving user problems or helping with data entry into our ERP system. Second, I help set up the Epicor ERP system for new clients. This involves understanding what they need, choosing the right parts of the system for them, and teaching them how to use it.

What do you find most rewarding about your work at Mayan Technologies?

For me, the most fulfilling part of my work is the positive feedback we receive from our clients. As a Mexican working mostly with American clients, there's a unique bond that forms when they thank us in Spanish or try to connect with us culturally.

It's deeply satisfying to know I've resolved an issue they've been facing. Personally, achieving goals that once seemed challenging is incredibly rewarding. It goes beyond merely finishing tasks; it's about overcoming obstacles and witnessing real progress.

How do you work together with your team to meet collective goals?

Working collaboratively with my team is key to our success, and this is especially true in my interactions with Marianne. Her depth of experience with Epicor is invaluable, and she's incredibly supportive and always ready to assist with any questions or challenges we encounter.

Additionally, the entire team, both in consulting and technical areas, fosters a culture of mutual support and knowledge-sharing. Despite our busy schedules, we always find ways to help each other out, whether it's suggesting solutions or working together on technical aspects. It's this collective effort and willingness to collaborate that enables us to achieve our team goals effectively.

How do you work together with your team to meet collective goals?

I'm very comfortable in my current role. Consulting is my passion, and I find great enjoyment in it. I envision myself continuing in a similar position. However, I'm also open to expanding my responsibilities, perhaps by acquiring knowledge of other ERP systems, which would enhance my versatility within the team.

In addition to this, I have an interest in data analysis—a field that complements my existing responsibilities. I hope to develop my skills in this area further. My goal is to keep growing and advancing within Mayan Technologies, not only to contribute to our team's achievements but also to enrich my professional expertise and stay at the forefront of industry developments.

Could you share some highlights from your professional journey?

Absolutely, my career actually started in a field quite different from where I find myself today. With a background in mechanical engineering, my initial steps into the professional world were not directly linked to my current role. After finishing my studies, I began as an intern at an aerospace company. As my career evolved, I transitioned through various roles, including working as an industrial engineer, and gradually, I found myself gravitating towards manufacturing. It was in this realm that I uncovered a keen interest in ERP systems, captivated by the intersection of technology and manufacturing.

In August 2022, I transitioned to Mayan Technologies. Although my title has remained the same, the scope and dynamics of my work has evolved significantly with each new client and project. Currently, my projects are focused on implementing Epicor systems. However, the core aspects of my role are solving operational challenges and facilitating ERP implementations.

Can you share a significant challenge you've faced at Mayan Technologies and how you managed to overcome it?

The most significant challenge I've faced has been one of the Epicor implementation projects. Initially, the stress of taking on such a complex task was overwhelming. However, I soon realized, that my anxiety was more about the pressure I was putting on myself rather than any actual inability on my part. To overcome this, I focused on building my confidence   by thoroughly preparing and studying. By arming myself with the necessary knowledge and skills, I was able to face the project with much more confidence and assurance.

How do you stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in your field?

Staying updated in our consulting field requires constant learning and research. I make it a habit to study daily and actively seek out new information online. I rely on various resources such as industry websites, forums, and contributions from other consultants.

Moreover, I stay informed about the latest updates and advancements in Epicor through official channels and community pages. Continuous learning and pursuing certifications are also integral to staying updated with the latest trends and developments in our field.

What advice would you offer to other women considering a career in technology, or to those who are already navigating their journey in this field?

Believe in yourself; trust in your abilities. Your journey to where you are now is a testament to your hard work and dedication. Remember, each day offers the chance to grow and learn.

Transitioning from working with Infor ERP to Epicor ERP, how did you find the learning process?

When I first joined the team, I spent several months immersing myself in Epicor ERP, starting with basic tasks and resolving simple tickets under Marianne's mentorship, given my lack of familiarity with Epicor. Despite my background with Infor and familiarity with other systems, I found Epicor remarkably user-friendly.

The availability of detailed manuals and a test environment significantly facilitated my learning process. Coupled with Marianne's expert guidance and my commitment to self-study, I was able to quickly grasp Epicor's features and functionalities. The entire process was not just smooth but also incredibly fulfilling, marking a positive transition in my ERP system expertise.

Reflecting on your experience as a super user for a company using an ERP system, how does that compare to your current role as a consultant?

Transitioning from a super user to a consultant has highlighted several key differences for me. One major change is the user experience with the ERP systems. In my prior role, navigating the system was challenging due to the complexity and scarcity of readily available information. For instance, Epicor has intuitively named features like "Job Entry," the previous system used cryptic designations such as "MS 05748," which made it less accessible.

Another significant difference lies in the availability of expertise. As a super user, we were often left to our own devices, lacking direct access to specialized ERP knowledge. In contrast, working as a consultant with Mayan Technologies has opened up a wealth of knowledge and resources. I now have the ability to dive deep into the ERP functionalities, offering our clients tailored solutions and a clearer understanding of how to leverage the system to meet their needs effectively.

Can you share with us a bit about your family background and your personal journey?
I'm originally from Chihuahua, born in the city of Cuauhtemoc within the state. However, I've been residing in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, since I was 8 years old. I'm the youngest of three siblings and growing up I was always known as the studious in our household.

What is your favorite hobby or pastime that helps you unwind outside of work?

One of my favorite pastimes is going to the gym. It helps clear my mind and keeps me physically active, especially after long periods of sitting at work. It helps me reset and maintain balance. Having this commitment to regular exercise also serves as a source of relaxation and motivation, allowing me to approach the next day with a renewed sense of energy and clarity.

Can you share with us something you are particularly proud of?

I'm particularly proud of my career journey, which I believe is uncommon in Chihuahua. Achieving a remote job with a technology company has been a significant achievement for me.

As a woman in the technology sector, I've encountered unique challenges, often finding myself as the only woman and the youngest in my professional environment. However, these challenges have only fueled my determination to prove myself and break down barriers. Also, I feel proud of getting into the consulting area at such a relatively young age. It's been a journey of growth, and I'm proud of how far I've come.

Do you have a particular goal you are currently pursuing?

One of my current personal goals is to save money for travel. Last year I had the incredible opportunity to visit Europe, and I'm excited to explore more destinations in the future. Additionally, as I mentioned earlier, I'm passionate about data analysis. To further this interest, I'm taking a course on weekends that I aim to apply the skills I'm learning in my current job.

How would you describe yourself?

I view myself as detail-oriented and conscientious, particularly when it comes to aspects of my life that are important to me. Although I sometimes struggle with stressing over minor details, I am deeply committed to my work, my family, and my hobbies.

Can you share a significant life lesson you've learned and how it has impacted you?

A significant life lesson I've learned is the value of living independently. When I was 21, circumstances led me to live alone, which initially felt like a challenge. However, over the past four years, I've come to realize that it was a period of self-discovery and growth. This experience coincided with when I started working at Mayan Technologies, adding another layer of complexity and growth to my journey. It taught me the importance of embracing challenges and stepping out of my comfort zone to foster personal and professional growth.

Is there a person who has made a difference in your life?

The most influential person in my life has undoubtedly been my mother. She has been my support in every aspect of my life. Her love and encouragement have been invaluable to me, shaping me into the person I am today.

Additionally, my boyfriend has played a significant role in my life. Over our four years together, he has helped me discover my true self and embrace self-love. He was the one who encouraged me to pursue a career in the technology field, and I'm grateful for his support and belief in me.

What does a perfect day look like for you?

A perfect day for me would start with a refreshing shower followed by breakfast at a nice restaurant. Next, I'd enjoy some leisure time, perhaps going to the movies or bowling. And finally returning home to play video games with my boyfriend.
