In this Spotlight edition, we introduce Jose Ignacio, also known as Nacho, our talented Jr. Tech Consultant. Born in Autlán, Jalisco, Nacho brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his role, despite recently graduating from college. His specialization in Epicor and Acumatica customizations and report designs sets him apart.

Beyond his technical expertise, Nacho harbors a true passion for programming and is a talented racket sports player. With his diverse interests and talents, Nacho is an invaluable asset to our team, and we take great pride in having him on board. We eagerly anticipate witnessing his future accomplishments in the years to come.

Professional

Jose Ignacio, a graduate of Universidad UNIVA in Guadalajara with a bachelor's degree in mechatronics engineering, embarked on his professional journey in video editing. He crafted captivating videos for weddings, hotels, and various companies using his profound expertise in programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. However, driven by his passion for programming, Jose Ignacio sought new horizons, which led him to join Mayan Technologies.

Since his arrival in August 2022, Jose Ignacio, fondly known as Nacho, has been on an upward trajectory, constantly expanding his skills and knowledge to become an invaluable member of our team. In the following section, he will share insights into his professional experiences, personal growth, and his enriching journey at Mayan Technologies.

What do you do at Mayan Technologies?

At Mayan Technologies, my role entails handling Epicor and Acumatica systems. I am responsible for report design and customizations, catering to the unique requirements of our clients.

Whether incorporating new functionalities within the interface or utilizing ERP tools to meet their specific needs, our team ensures seamless operations in various aspects such as order processing, financial management, inventory control, and more. A comprehensive understanding of these processes is crucial to providing top-notch service to our clients.

Regarding development and technical consulting, what key things have you learned at Mayan Technologies?

Working at Mayan has been a tremendous learning experience for me. I've had to dive into the world of Epicor and familiarize myself with its diverse set of tools, which are essential for fulfilling our clients' specific requests. Additionally, I've gained valuable knowledge about report generation, an area I had yet to explore. Although the learning process has been fascinating and occasionally challenging, I've genuinely enjoyed every moment of my journey here.

You've had the opportunity to work in different areas since joining Mayan Technologies. Can you share your thoughts on these changes?

Absolutely! When I joined Mayan Technologies, I strongly desired to delve into programming. I started in the Enterprise Solutions area as a Jr. Tech Consultant. Although I had limited knowledge in the field then, I quickly adapted and discovered that I genuinely enjoyed it. However, my passion for development and programming persisted. That's when my manager presented me with the opportunity to transition to the Custom Solutions team and work with the PUK team. Even though it was a relatively short period, I relished the experience. It was precisely what I had been seeking because instead of working with an ERP system, I was involved in creating and customizing applications from scratch for our clients. Our team and other companies collaborated on building the page code, granting us greater access to the application's core functions than I had encountered in Epicor.

I have since returned to the Enterprise Solutions area as a Jr. Tech Consultant, focusing on customizations and reports. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Each ticket brings a unique challenge, and I'm always excited to learn something new.

You're fresh out of college. How do you feel about the industry and working in the consulting space? Is it what you envisioned?

To be honest, it's not exactly what I had imagined. Coming from a mechatronic engineering background, my previous work experience was in a production line. So, transitioning into this field was entirely unexpected. I needed to learn more about professional services or ERP systems like Epicor and Acumatica. I had heard of SAP but had yet to work with an ERP before. It was initially challenging, but as I started learning and growing in this role, it gradually grew on me. Now, I can say that I really enjoy it.

What type of project do you enjoy working on the most?

Personally, I find myself most drawn to Epicor customizations. It's incredibly fulfilling to work with such a comprehensive ERP system that offers a wide range of tools to meet our client's specific requirements. I also have a fondness for report design.

Previously, I worked as a video editor, utilizing programs like Photoshop. While it's not the same, I find it enjoyable and relaxing to manipulate text boxes and create designs based on our client's requests.

What advice would you give those interested in pursuing a career in the software consulting industry?

I encourage them to give their best and embrace the fact that there will always be more to learn. It's essential to recognize that nobody can be an expert in everything, and that's okay. The industry is constantly evolving, presenting new knowledge and challenges. The key is actively seeking out information, absorbing it, and always putting forth your best effort. You'll thrive in the software consulting industry with dedication and a willingness to learn.

What has been the most significant challenge since joining Mayan Technologies or in your professional career?

Without a doubt, the go live for a manufacturing packaging company stands out as one of the most significant challenges I've encountered during my time at Mayan Technologies. When I was assigned to the project, I had only been with the company for two months and was still learning the ropes.

Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to prepare, and when the moment arrived, we encountered numerous issues. Thankfully, I had the unwavering support of my colleagues, Miguel and Ana, who guided me through the obstacles and helped us ultimately succeed.

Where do you envision yourself professionally in the next five years?

In the next five years, I aim to become a Senior Tech Consultant in the professional services area, much like Ernesto. I aspire to develop the same level of expertise and knowledge that enables me to offer solutions for any challenge that comes my way. My goal is to reach a stage in my career where I am recognized as an expert and colleagues can rely on me for guidance and practical problem-solving.

Why did you choose to study mechatronics engineering? Were there any other fields that caught your interest?

I have always been captivated by the inner workings of machines and the brilliant solutions they offer. Technology has played a remarkable role in advancing humanity, and I wanted to be a part of that world. I wanted to comprehend the complexities and create my designs and solutions. Plus, I must admit, my love for Ironman fueled my interest in engineering.

Before embarking on my college journey, I considered other fields as well. Mechatronics, with its blend of mechanics and electronics, interested me. Architecture fascinated me as I saw buildings as magnificent works of art. And then there was medicine, with its enigmatic understanding of the human body, particularly the mesmerizing intricacies of the brain. It's perplexing how a meatball knows it's a meatball while other objects lack such awareness.

Personal

After delving into Jose Ignacio's professional journey, we shifted gears to explore his personal interests and experiences. Beyond his work, he exudes a passion for the digital arts, immersing himself in movies and video games. Additionally, he finds solace in the realms of painting and music, with a particular fondness for the nostalgic tunes of the 80s and 90s.

When it comes to leisure time, Jose Ignacio cherishes moments spent with loved ones, be it family, friends, or his girlfriend. Whether engaging in sports activities that keep him active or delving into deep discussions on life's philosophical matters, he relishes these meaningful connections that enrich his personal life.

Can you share a bit about your family background and your personal journey? Where is your hometown?

Absolutely! I'm 22 years old and originally from Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco. However, my time there was rather short-lived as I moved to Puerto Vallarta when I was just two years old. Throughout my entire childhood and teenage years, I called Puerto Vallarta my home until the age of 18. At that point, I ventured to Guadalajara to pursue my bachelor's degree in mechatronics engineering. Currently, I reside with my parents in Puerto Vallarta. Still, I have plans to return to Guadalajara in June and reunite with my roommates.

If you could reside anywhere, where would you choose?

If I could pick my ideal living location, I would choose a tranquil and picturesque town in Switzerland. There's something incredibly appealing about the Swiss countryside's serene atmosphere and stunning landscapes. However, I would also appreciate having convenient access to a nearby bustling city that offers a vibrant nightlife and a wide array of exciting activities. It would strike the perfect balance between peaceful living and dynamic urban experiences.

How do you like to spend your free time?

In my free time, I love playing video games, drawing, and getting lost in captivating books. I also have a passion for racket sports like front tennis, squash, and ping pong, which keep me active and entertained.

Most importantly, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, whether we're exploring restaurants, strolling through malls, or enjoying the beauty of a park. It's those shared experiences that truly make my free time special.

When it comes to video games, what genres do you enjoy the most? Have you been playing any specific games recently?

I enjoy various game genres, such as shooters, RPGs (Role-Playing Games), and puzzle games (like the classic Tetris). However, the power of storytelling truly captivates me in both games and movies. I love immersing myself in engaging narratives and connecting with well-crafted characters that evoke emotions as I play.

Speaking of favorites, one game that holds a special significance to me is Halo. It carries a treasure trove of nostalgic memories, having played it with my dad and friends. Beyond that, Halo's rich universe boasts an enthralling storyline and unforgettable characters, making it an enduring favorite.

As for my current gaming adventure, I'm engrossed in "God of War - 2018," an expansive open-world game that transports players into stunning landscapes inspired by Norse mythology. It weaves together an epic and heartwarming tale that has truly captivated me. It's one of the finest games I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

What are your personal aspirations for this year and the near future?

Looking ahead, my ultimate long-term goal is to establish my own company. I also have a deep passion for video games and dream of pursuing a career in the captivating world of video game development. I find video game programming fascinating as it involves using actual physics to replicate real-world scenarios in a virtual environment. Lastly, I have a unique aspiration to own a restaurant that combines a vibrant dance floor and plays music genres like salsa.

Is there a particular destination you've always wanted to visit but haven't had the opportunity yet?

Europe has always been a dream destination for me. I'm particularly fascinated by countries like Italy, France, Spain, and Germany. I can't wait to explore their rich cultures and vibrant cities someday. Interestingly, I'm even considering pursuing my master's degree in Germany, as I developed a passion for the language during college when I attended German classes. It would be a fantastic opportunity to immerse myself in the language and further practice it.

Regarding movies, you mentioned your passion for digital arts. Is there a specific film that has deeply resonated with you?

There have been numerous movies that have left a lasting impact on me. Still, if I had to choose one, it would be "Rango," the animated film about a courageous lizard. Set in the backdrop of the Old West, this movie delves into themes of corruption. However, what truly struck me was its powerful message about taking control of one's destiny. It taught me that we shouldn't simply wait for life to happen to us but instead actively shape our paths. As the movie emphasizes, "No man can walk out of his own story." It's a reminder to be proactive and define the person we aspire to become.

You mentioned that you like to immerse yourself in captivating books. Can you share any recent reads or perhaps a favorite book that has left a lasting impression on you?

I enjoy getting lost in a good book whenever I can. I am currently hooked on "The Golden Ratio," which delves into how this magical number called Phi shows up in nature and human creations. It's mind-blowing to see how math connects with our world.

As for a favorite book, that's tough because I appreciate different books in different ways. But if I had to choose, "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells is a top contender. You might know Wells from "The War of the Worlds." In "The Time Machine," he takes us on a wild ride as a scientist ventures into the future and discovers a world eerily similar to ours. It makes you think about how our actions shape the environment. It's a book that has stuck with me and made me ponder the consequences of our choices.
