This month’s spotlight introduces us to Ana Karen Garza, one of our team's youngest members. She currently handles part of the company's financial operations and works as one of our General Consultants.

Ana is well known for her discipline and commitment, and here at Mayan Technologies we are happy to have her form part of our team. She has swiftly built a solid reputation and has come to help enhance and simplify several of our internal corporate procedures. Ana is also assigned to one of our biggest Acumatica ERP projects. We are excited to work with her and look forward to going great things in the future.

Ana graduated from the University of Monterrey (UDEM) in December 2021 with a bachelor’s in economics. Although the career started out difficult at first, the determination that characterizes Ana helped her graduate and receive her degree. She started her professional career at the age of 15 working her first job in a credit office. She worked as a data entry assistant and has made her way up to a General Consultant at Mayan Technologies.

Here is more detail on Ana's professional life, her insight on working at Mayan Technologies, and aspirations moving forward.

What do you do at Mayan Technologies?

My responsibility is to assist our CAM and Senior Financial Consultant with different financial activities such as generating invoices for collections, monitoring client payments, payroll, and calculating commissions.

A few months ago, I began working on various client projects, the largest of which is IBR, where I help with the financial and marketing modules in Acumatica ERP.

What are you most proud of in your career?

I am proud of where I am today in my career.  Although I am young and recently graduated, I have managed to continuously move forward in my career and already have three years of professional experience both in my career, and in technology.

I am proud of my decisions, my ambition to move forward and grateful to have worked in good companies that have helped kick start my professional career.

How do you envision your career long-term?

Although I have really enjoyed my accounting journey, my interest in building a career focused on banking has shifted and I would like to pursue a career more tech oriented. Not leaving my accounting background behind but rather integrating my accounting knowledge with today’s technologies and software.

My time at Mayan Technologies has shown me new possibilities and has allowed me to grow outside of my career path. In doing so, has helped me better envision my long-term goals.

What have you gained professionally from working at Mayan Technologies?

Working at Mayan Technologies has helped me get rid of my fear of talking to other team members, even when we worked at the office, I used to be very shy and wouldn't talk to anyone.
After we became a remote team and implemented morning meetings, I started to get to know the team more and gained confidence.

What is it you like most about working at Mayan Technologies?

The company's work atmosphere is very welcoming; the team is always willing to help whenever needed. It has also given me the opportunity to expand on my practical experience and put my knowledge to good use.

What do you think differentiates Mayan Technologies from our competitors?

The work ethic. Our team emphasizes on quality, discipline, teamwork, professionalism, respectfulness, determination, and accountability. We bring our work ethics to every project big or small. Additionally, we form a special connection with our clients, work closely with them, which allows us to better understand their needs and concerns.

What are your most-used productivity hacks?

One of my hacks is to listen to lo-fi music, this enables me to focus better. Another one of my hacks is to activate my phone's concentration mode, which disables all applications from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Tips from
our Experts

We have the privilege of working with very talented experts, each in their areas. Why not share some of that knowledge. Here are Ana's best practices when working with clients.

Tips to Help Deliver your Best Work to Clients

It is important to not only know what the client wants but also how they feel about their problems. This will allow you to better understand where the problem is originating from and predict further needs. This will also help you come up with suggestions to better help the client.

Make sure you have the information you need before starting to work. It is important to know all you need before starting. Having all the information will allow you to avoid mistakes and reworks.

Double check your work. Before delivering your work, make sure to double check it. This way you will avoid mistakes you might have missed while finishing your work.

Our conversation entailing Ana's personal life began with a few questions regarding her personal goals, things she would like to do, and general inquiries about her life. Most importantly, Ana is 24-years old, who lives with her family, and has a boyfriend of almost 9-years.  She mentioned she enjoys long conversations at coffee shops, exercising, and reading.

What are some of your personal goals this year?

This year, I want to continue my professional growth, take a vacation trip, ideally to Europe, but realistically somewhere in the United States. I also want to develop my drawing skills, which has been a long-time hobby of mine and to re-start my reading habit and read at least 50 books this year.

Ana continued to mention her favorite book genre is Fantasy. and her favorite book is from The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson, her favorite being the second book in the series called Words of Radiance, which she has read four times and listened to the audio book another four times.

What is on your bucket list?

Many things are on my bucket list, but the most relevant include living in Europe for a time, learning to do conceptual art like the ones created before making a movie or videogame, visiting Iceland, and opening my own coffee shop with amazing coffee and a comfortable atmosphere to work from.

What’s something you’ve always wanted to try or do?

Bungee jumping, although to be honest, I don't believe I'll ever do it since, since I am scared of heights.

If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

I’d become an expert in writing. I've wanted to be a fantasy book author since I was a child. It is the genre that sparked my interest in reading and writing, so becoming an instant expert would be a longtime dream come true.

If you could live in any city, where would it be and why?

Interlaken, a small village in Switzerland I visited with friends before the pandemic. It is located between two lakes and has a beautiful landscape, and while being semi-touristy destination, it is still very peaceful. It is the most beautiful place I have ever visited, and I would love to live there someday.

What are your pet peeves?

People that eat with their mouths open, people screaming abruptly or those that don’t greet when meeting and being rude to Customer Service personnel. I know fist hand how that feels since I worked in Customer Service before.

Did You Know?

Here are three things you probably didn't know about Ana:

Ana's favorite season is winter. She enjoys the cold weather.

She has a 5-year-old pug named Chencho who lives a very pampered life.

Ana loves going to coffee shops with friends.
